“Art Outside of Ourselves” Exhibit

June 3, 2015 - June 26, 2015

“Art Outside of Ourselves” – an exhibit of art cards made during Cheryl Fortier’s community art project.

Exhibit: June 3 – 26, 2015

Location: The gallery is located in the library at Britannia Community Centre.

More about the project “Art Outside of Ourselves”-  East Vancouver artist Cheryl Fortier was the recipient of The East FEAST 2014 funding for her project “Art Outside of Ourselves”.  The project enabled a group of artists with developmental disabilities from “Alternatives Creations Studio”  in East Vancouver along with community members to take an imaginative journey to and from Vancouver, BC and Southwest France without leaving the art studio. Cheryl led art workshops in which the participants created “mail art” (postcard sized, two dimensional artworks). The mail art was exchanged with community members and artists with developmental disabilities from the “A deux mains” studio in Valence d’Agen, France.

The art cards that are on display at the Britannia Community gallery were created by the artists and community in France. The cards that were created in Vancouver and mailed to France will be on exhibit this fall in the village of Auvillar.

Cheryl would like to thank East FEAST Vancouver, the East Vancouver community for their support, community members who joined us in the studio and a special thanks to Alternative Creations Studio and the Atelier à deux mains at Centre Henri Cros for being enthusiastic partners in the project. She hopes that this project was the beginning of a long term artistic exchange between the two communities.
